This is my own little section of the series of tubes that make up the internet.
Here are my thoughts on some of the big issues…
Life
I live in a historical section of a large town outside of Albany, NY, with my wife and our dog, Maggie and cat two cats, Linode [TheCat] and Alex. I work as a programmer for an energy business, and do consulting on the side. I am a volunteer firefighter and a New York State EMT.
Beliefs
I am a Christian, but I don’t believe in Church. I believe that when people come to gather together like that, human nature takes over and it turns into a political game. I believe people believe what they believe for a reason. I believe that making people believe a certain set of beliefs because of the name on the sign outside is wrong. I do not believe in Creationism, in the strict sense of the word. I believe that the world we see today was formed through evolution. I do not think it could have turned out the way it did with out God’s hand. I feel the same about miracles. I don’t believe things go poof and get all better. I believe that God gives the right people a little “shove” in the right direction.
Technology
I have been exposed to computers almost my entire life, since learning BASIC on the Commodore 64. I know many programing languages, and am proficient in none (but give me an O’Reilly book, and I can do a pretty good job). I enjoy creating web based applications, but stink at HTML. I run a mix of Slackware Linux or Ubuntu on any computer I can get my hands on, including my laptop, which my wife uses and loves, and my EeePC. I started using Linux because I was sick of pirating Windows, but have since grown to the simplicity of it (from my point of view). I have no moral objection to using non-free software, but will avoid it if there is a free version available. I have a tendency to over think and over complicate my projects, and usually don’t finish them.
